INTRODUCTION
OBJECTIVE
The goals of the research was to gain a better understanding of the following:
• How much clinicians value clinical practice guidelines
• The frequency and methods clinicians use to discover new guidelines or guideline updates
• The most common reported use cases for guidelines
• The preferred format(s) for referencing guidelines
• How various factors may affect trust and perception of guidelines, as well as what role, if any,
industry can play in the support of the dissemination and implementation of guidelines
• Another of our primary goals is to use the findings to help guideline authoring medical specialty
associations more efficiently and effectively execute dissemination and implementation campaigns
for their current and future clinical practice guidelines.
RESULTS
We found that clinicians value guidelines significantly. The research identified the most widely used and
requested guideline implementation tools and dissemination channels. We also found that preferences
have evolved, and usage has increased in the last 5 years. This whitepaper presents the various findings
and key takeaways for each survey question.
