GUIDELINES - PREFERRED FORMATS
INTRODUCTION
After inquiring how guidelines are valued and how often they are being used, we asked a series of
questions relating to the preferred format(s) for referencing clinical practice guidelines.
We asked clinicians the following questions:
1. "Rate the perceived value and utility of the following guideline derivative products."
a. Summary of Guideline Recommendations in Hard Copy Format
b. Summary of Guideline Recommendations in Digital (online/website) Format
c. Summary of Guideline Recommendations in Mobile App Format
d. Full-Text Guidelines in Mobile App Format
e. Slide Sets
f. Quizzes (Without CME)
g. Quizzes (With CME)
h. Plain Language Patient Summaries
i. Videos & Webinars
j. Podcasts
k. Infographics
l. Calculators/Checklists
m. CDS Applications for EHRs
2. "Would you like to receive free clinical guideline reference tools in the following formats?"
a. Digital Online & Website
b. Mobile App
c. Print Handout
d. Embedded in EHR
3. "Would you prefer a free clinical guideline reference tool in a full-text or summarized and
abbreviated format?"
4. "Which of the following statements do you most agree with pertaining to clinical guidelines in a
mobile app?"
a. I prefer to have a single guidelines app that houses guidelines from all relevant societies
pertaining to my profession/specialty.
b. I prefer to have a separate app for each society and their guidelines.
The following section summarizes the responses and key takeaways regarding clinicians' preferred
format(s) for referencing clinical practice guidelines.
