In normal patients and those with scleroderma without PH (Scleroderma NoPH), the
mean PA pressure only modestly rises despite a significant increase in flow. In contrast,
patients with PAH or with scleroderma and borderline PH (Scleroderma BlnPH) cannot
accommodate an increase in flow without a concomitant increase in the mean PA pressure.
A mPAP-CO slope of >3.0 can indicate the presence of pulmonary vascular disease.
