36 Management Obesity-Related Diseases Lifestyle Management of Type 2 Diabetes, Hypertension, Dyslipidemia, and Cardiovascular Disease   ➤ Provide evidence-based medical nutrition therapy tailored to the individual, promoting the intake of low-calorie, that is tailored to the individual and promotes intake of low-calorie and nutrient- dense foods.   ➤ Replace sugar-sweetened beverages with water or low-calorie or zero-calorie beverages.   ➤ Substitute fish or lean poultry for red meat and processed meats.   ➤ Some specific dietary patterns, such as the Mediterranean diet, can improve cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors; however, weight loss reduces CVD risk regardless of the dietary pattern.   ➤ Limit alcohol use and encourage tobacco cessation.   ➤ Recommend at least 150 minutes of moderate- to vigorous- intensity aerobic activity and two to three sessions of resistance exercise per week.   ➤ Aim for at least 5% weight loss.
