2 Key Points ➤ Thermal and chemical ablation techniques are minimally invasive compared with surgery, but there is a potential for complications and morbidity if the procedures are performed incorrectly or by inexperienced practitioners. ➤ This guideline provides a framework for the safe adoption and implementation of thermal and chemical ablative technologies for benign thyroid nodules. ➤ Eligibility and contraindications to thermal ablation (TA) should be thoroughly evaluated during a dedicated US examination and consultation by the operator. ➤ Shared decision making with the patient, duly informed of the advantages and disadvantages compared to observation, surgery (or radioiodine when appropriate) is mandatory.
