Key Points Î The purpose of the current guideline is to establish evidence- based practicing standards for the performance of biopsies of normal-appearing mucosa in the upper gastrointestinal tract. Î Dyspepsia is defined according to the Rome III criteria, which include ≥1 of the following symptoms: bothersome postprandial fullness, early satiation, epigastric pain, and epigastric burning. Î The guideline assumes no prior treatment for Helicobacter pylori (HP) infection. Rome III Criteria for Functional Dyspepsia Diagnostic criteria a must include: One or more of the following: • Bothersome postprandial fullness • Early satiation • Epigastric pain • Epigastric burning AND • No evidence of structural disease (including at upper endoscopy) that is likely to explain the symptoms a Criteria fulfilled for the last 3 months with symptom onset ≥6 months prior to diagnosis Source: www.romecriteria.org/assets/pdf/19_RomeIII_apA_885-898.pdf Diagnosis
